The Day The Earth Stood Still Review

My grandfather told me the original movie was one of his favorite sci fi films so my grandparents, along with Irena and I decided to go see this movie together. I didn't know what to expect really as i intentionally didn't watch the original because i wanted to be surprised. Neo doesn't seem to do a lot of movies anymore so i was excited when i saw the trailer for this one about 6 months ago.

The movie itself started off great. I was very interested in the story and for the first half of it i would say it was pretty good. I found it pretty exciting and i really couldn't wait to see what happened at the end. Well unfortunately the ending was dull. The last half of the movie was fairly dull actually. Instead of peaking at the end, it died out with a whimper. I was disappointed at that but mostly i was EXTREMELY disappointed in the product placements. They were so bad and obvious that it made me sick to my stomach. I am not sure what the budget for this film was but i can imagine it wasn't cheap to make. One after another the commercials showed up and they weren't just for a second either, they were for multiple seconds at a time and were framed obviously. Things like that really take me out of a movie when they are that obvious and are poorly done. There is not need for that, it seems to be just greed and it turned a movie that had a lot of potential to a potentially bad film.

I didn't hate the movie. Neo was very good and that was the bright spot of the film along with the "moral" of the story which was also good. As i said i enjoyed the first half but overall it wasn't great and i would recommend waiting for the DVD release instead of paying for the movies. Also we had a sniffer behind us. I don't get those people. They just sniff loudly through the entire movie. What an asshole. It's really distracting and i wish that idiot could have been removed but oh well. It wasn't that great of a movie anyway so i guess it goes along with the territory.

I give it a 5 out of 10. Average.
