Watchmen Review

The Watchmen movie is based on the graphic novel written by Alan Moore who also wrote V for Vendetta and From Hell. He didn't write the movie scripts but he did write the original novels. The Wachowski Bros wrote the script for V. and they changed it so much he took his name off of the movie. Anyway going into this i had pretty low expectations because i usually don't love comic book movies. There are a select few that i like but the Spider man kind of stuff is gay to me. Over the top sappy love stories and predictable plot lines are not my favorite. I liked Sin City because it was original and edgy.

The watchmen is about a group of super people who are no longer active. One of them gets murdered at the beginning and the rest of the film is about solving the mystery of the murder because they believe they are all numbered. The story takes some twists and turns that makes it not so predictable. The direction is cool. A lot of the slow down stuff, it looks great. It's by the same director as the movie 300 and it looks similar. The movie is very dark and not for little kids at all. Similar to sin city content wise.

About an hour and a half into the film i was thinking to myself "This is the best comic book movie ever!" The story along with the action had me hooked in. Then of course it made a turn for the worse. The story became silly after a while and the movie was WAY to long. All together it was two and a half hours which isn't always a bad thing if the content is there but in The Watchmen it's not. I hate when endings ruin what would other wise be a great film but unfortunately this one did. Honestly i felt the ending was kind of dumb. At around the 2 hour mark i hoped they were going to end it because there was a scene on Mars that was great and could have been a fantastic ending but instead it went on and on and became silly. On the comic movie scale i give this one an 8 out of 10.
Overall though i give it a 6 out of 10.
