Why Are The Terminator Films So Confusing?

So the new Terminator movie looks cool and I have a general idea of what it's supposed to be about, but there's something with the storyline that I'm still not quite sure on. All that time traveling back and forth gets a little annoying and confusing. So, I've been searching around trying to figure out how all the films (including the new one) fit into one another and luckily I came across this article - check it out. Reading it only made me more confused about the franchise, but I'll still go see Terminator Salvation. Humans fighting robots will never get old!
