Surveillance Review

If you’re a fan of fucked up psycho-thrillers or just a good ol’ fashion violent dramas, then check out Jennifer Chamber’s Lynch’s Surveillance. It’s a dark/somewhat-comedic film that centers around a group of shady characters all caught up in the local murders that have been happening around their small mid-western town. The film is told through each character’s point of view via flashback and gradually leads you on to realize that someone in the room isn’t telling the truth or at least their side of the story. Be warned there is a twist ending, but what happens after the twist is what really messes with your head.

I saw this film back in April at the 2009 Philadelphia Film Fest and was really impressed with it. The acting, the look, and the story are all really good. I didn’t know much of Julia Ormond’s work previous to this movie, but she gives a great performance and is pretty hot. Bill Pullman is also really good in it, but the surprise hit of the cast is French Stewart (yes, that moron from 3rd Rock from the Sun!), watch the scene where he interrogates an entire family and tell me you don’t laugh and feel creeped out at the same time. The film is directed by the daughter of David Lynch and if you’re a fan of his, then you’ll enjoy his daughter’s work as well - she too incorporates and mixes well some disturbing and humorous scenes.

All in all a great film and now you can either just rent/buy it or wait for it when it hits theaters in wide release on June 26th.

Overall Rating: Rent it now or wait for in theaters.
