Trick 'r Treat (What Happened?)

If you've watched 300 on DVD and didn't skip the previews then you probably saw the trailer for Trick 'r Treat (if not go here). It looks awesome and has a bit of an 80's horror feel to it. Apparently, the film had some problems and never received an official release. It did eventually make it's way through some film festivals where the general response was great, but this still didn't help with getting the film out to larger audiences. So I'm not sure what happened. Where does it stand? Has it been thrown away and ignored by the studios or will it go straight to DVD? Anyone know? Someone please tell me!

I'm not big into horror films, but this one looks good.
