I'm usually not interested in "supergroup" bands, however this one seems like it's going to rock! Don't get me wrong the idea of having a band made up of famous musicians sounds cool, but they hardly ever live up to the potential or at least the imagining of what they set out to be. With that said, it should be noted that there have been a few supergroups that were really great (Audioslave), some that were ok (A Perfect Circle, Zwan), some that were just annoying (Velvet Revolver), and some that left you asking, "who would ever listen to this shit?" (Alter Bridge, Angels & Airwaves).
Now comes along the latest supergroup - Them Crooked Vultures. Comprised of singer/guitarist Josh Homme (Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal), bassist John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), and drummer Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) TCV looks promising. So far they've kept their campaigning to a minimum and not let the fact that they're all accomplished musicians take over the spotlight. Whereas a band like Velvet Revolver constantly told people, "hey look at us! we're cool and you should like us because were a mashup of STP & GNR!", Them Crooked Vultures have taken a subtle approach about broadcasting their star-power and genuinely seem more focused on their music (like bands should be). Basically the band comes off being real and pays more attention to music than how cool they think everyone should think they are. Their album comes out Tues, 11/17, but for now check out some videos from them.
