Harvey Review

"Harvey" is a film from 1950 based on the Pulitzer prize winning play by Mary Chase. It's about a man who has a 6 foot 8 invisible bunny rabbit as a friend. (Sound familiar donnie darko fans?) I don't care what Richard Kelley says this movie had to be an influence on Donnie Darko! There are to many coincidences which i won't all give away because i don''t want to ruin the surprises for you but you have to know that Donnie Darko is one of my favorite films and seeing this movie was a treat because of that. This is no where near as sci fi as Donnie and not as serious but it does have some similarities. It also has a lot of similarities to Lars and the Real Girl.

The main character Elwood is played by James Steward who was amazing in this movie. The script is superb and it should be a lesson to movie makers of today... "You don't have to spend a billion dollars to make a good movie." As long as the script and the acting is good you can make a movie with 10 grand. On the surface it's about a man who everyone thinks is having a delusion of this rabbit named Harvey. His family looks at him like an embarrassment and treats him like garbage. Eventually they try to lock him up in a mental institution and things go crazy from there. It's really a movie about humanity, the good and the bad side of humanity. I won't tell you if it's all in his head or not but i will say this....

"Do you believe in time travel Donnie?"

Enjoy!
