First of all it's not what it thought it was going to be. I thought it was going to be a sci fi film like the first one. This is more of a straight ahead thriller with some spiritual elements to it and a tinge of sci fi but hardly at all. After seeing it i was satisfied they went this direction because it was much like the show. A lot of episodes are sci fi but a lot are crime drama/thrillers. Without giving to much away...
The basic story is about black market organ stealing. Which you hear about a lot but it's not addressed in the public eye very often. There is an old story that most people know about someone waking up in an ice bath top with their organs missing. Well this is kind of based off of that. I liked the sub plot too. Dana Skully is a full time doctor now and she works in a hospital run by the Catholic church. Skully has always been a catholic and i find that interesting because she is very science based and she seems to always be conflicted between her belief in God and her belief in science. It really gives her character depth and makes for a good sub plot to the movie. One of her patients is a child who has an incurable disease. The church wants to let the child die but she wants to try stem cell research. (see the conflict?) Anyway i think that the main plot and the sub plot are really well done and i was satisfied with the ending. I just wish it was a little longer, it was only an hour and a half and i wished there was more to it. (A good sign i guess because i was enjoying myself.) The only real complaint i have is that the thriller ending was a little anti-climatic.
Overall it's DEFINITELY worth seeing if you are a fan of the show and if you aren't i still think it's worth checking out. It's a nice and tight spiritual thriller with a good story-line and interesting philosophical questions.
