Slumdog Millionaire Review

This is another movie that to me suffers from what i like to call OHS (Over Hyped Syndrome.) I have heard from many people that his is the best movie of the year. It's amazing, incredible, and you have to see it! Well i saw it. While i did enjoy it, i would not say it is the best movie of last year. I really don't even think it's close.

Slumdog is about a guy who grew up in the slums of india and had a horrible, terrible fucking life. His parents were killed at a young age and he has to grow up with his deranged brother. The film takes place in the present but it mostly a flashback film. The main character is one question away from winning who wants to be a millionaire. The problem is they believe he cheated so they are torturing him in hopes that he will admit to it. While they are questioning him, he has flashbacks of how he knew the answer. This all leads up to the ending where he does get a shot to answer the final question on millionaire.

The thing that is supposed to drive the story is the love he has for a girl he met when he was a child. The entire film is about him trying to find this girl again and wanting to be with her. That's all great but i really didn't enjoy that aspect of the story as i felt there was almost no connection between the two characters. He doesn't even know her really. Actually Irena stopped watching it with 30 minutes left because she was completely bored with the characters. I didn't feel that way so i continued to watch and i ended up liking it but i didn't love it like so many others did.

There is a scene where he jumps into a hole full of human shit and runs to get an autograph covered in feces. That was pretty entertaining i have to admit. I recommend seeing it but just don't over hype yourself!

7 out of 10.
