Lars and the Real Girl Review

Is it just me or is Ryan Gosling one of the most underrated actors in hollywood? He was great in "Half nelson" and of course the famous "The Notebook." But his performance in Lars and the Real Girl definitely raises him above the average hollywood actor.

The movie is about a man who is a little mentally slow. Not retarded but just doesn't function properly socially. He develops a relationship with a Real Doll (glorified blowup doll,) It sounds like it would be a funny sexual comedy but it's pretty much the exact opposite. It's a drama that can be very sad at times. Lars is extremely lonely and he doesn't think anyone cares until his family and neighborhood show him that there are people who actually do care about him. It's a nice premise and is a touching story that i would recommend to anyone. There is a film called "Harvey" from 1950 that this movie is based on. I haven't seen it yet but i have read there are a lot of similarties. Going to see it soon because of Lars.

Overall i think it's one of the better films of 2007.
