The Best Short Film Ever Made (The Perfect Human)

The Perfect Human (Danish: Det perfekte menneske) is a 1967 short film by Jørgen Leth lasting 13 minutes. It depicts a man and a woman, both labelled 'the perfect human' in a detached manner, "functioning" in a white boundless room, as though they were subjects in a zoo.[1]
The film was later seen in five different versions when Leth was challenged by filmmaker Lars von Trier which was compiled in The Five Obstructions.[1]

Newest movies added to my library, Post YOURS! (For you movie collectors out there)

Thought this may be another good way to discover movies. Here are the latest movies i just added...

Thirst (Chan-Woo Park)
Summary: Sang-hyun, a priest working for a hospital, selflessly volunteers for a secret vaccine development project intended to eradicate a deadly virus. However, the virus eventually takes over the priest. He nearly dies, but makes a miraculous recovery by an accidental transfusion of vampire blood. Shadow of the vampire (E. Elias Merhige)
Summary: Shadow of the Vampire is a film about the making of a German all time classic silent horror-movie from 1922 called Nosferatu-Eine Symphonie des Grauens (Nosferatu-a Symphony of Horror). The production of Nosferatu had to deal with a lot of strange things (some crew members disappeared, some died). This movie focuses on the difficult relationship between Murnau, the director, and Schreck, the lead actor.

Chinatown (Roman Polanski)

He is hired by Evelyn Mulwray when she suspects her husband Hollis, builder of the city's water supply system, of having an affair. When Mr. Mulwray is found dead, Jake is plunged into a complex web of deceit involving murder, incest and municipal corruption all related to the city's water supply.

Casablanca (Michael Curtiz)

Much to Rick's surprise, Lazslo arrives with Ilsa, Rick's one time love. Rick is very bitter towards Ilsa, who ran out on him in Paris, but when he learns she had good reason to, they plan to run off together again using the letters of transit. Well, that was their original plan....

The Five Obstructions (Jørgen Leth, Lars Von Trier)
Summary: "The Five Obstructions", a 100 min. theatre documentary directed by Lars von Trier and Jørgen Leth. An investigative journey into the phenomenon of "documentary", based on manifestos written by each director. CARRIE

One of the classic horror movies. One of my fav's and the first novel ever published by Stephen King. Brian de palma does a brilliant just of directed and delivers one of the best opening scenes to ever be put on the big screen. What happened to good horror movies? They are few and far between now but at least we can still watch the great ones!

And here is the rest of it.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Another brilliant film by writer Charlie Kaufman. How can you not think this is great? I don't know!

Summary: A man, Joel Barish, heartbroken that his girlfriend Clementine underwent a procedure to erase him from her memory, decides to do the same. However, as he watches his memories of her fade away, he realizes that he still loves her, and may be too late to correct his mistake.

Orgazmo is probably my favorite low budget comedy. Matt and Trey can do no wrong to me and the humor is so stupid in this movie it makes me laugh over and over again. If you are a fan of Matt and Trey's stuff you will probably love this movie. Here is a synopsis..

Joe Young was a simple young man trying to spread the word of the Book of Mormon when he picked the wrong house to preach at! The owner, a porn director named Maxxx Orbison, tells his henchmen to kill the guy at the door who interrupted their scene, but Joe fights off the guards with great skill, which impresses Maxxx so much that he offers Joe the lead role in the movie he's making at the moment: Orgazmo, which is about a sex superhero who fights crime with his Orgazmorator and ChodaBoy, his sidekick. Joe, against his beliefs, takes the job so that he can pay for the wedding he plans for he and his fiancee, who he doesn't tell about his risque new acting job. However, when the movie becomes an amazing hit just about everywhere and he finds out that Ben (ChodaBoy) has created a real Orgazmorator, Joe is in some serious hot water!

Let the right one in is one the best vampire movies i have ever seen. Maybe my favorite. It's completely opposite to an american vampire film and that's why i love it i think. Here is small summary...

Oskar, a bullied 12-year old, dreams of revenge. He falls in love with Eli, a peculiar girl. She can't stand the sun or food and to come into a room she needs to be invited. Eli gives Oskar the strength to hit back but when he realizes that Eli needs to drink other people's blood to live he's faced with a choice. How much can love forgive? Let The Right One In is a story both violent and highly romantic, set in the Stockholm suburb of Blackeberg in 1982.

T-roy's Movie Club (Week 9)

This is probably my favorite Kevin Smith film. It's got everything in it. Comedy, Drama, a fisting discussion, you name it. I've liked all his movies but he had something special with this one. Here is a summary...

Writer-director Kevin Smith ("Clerks") makes a huge leap in sophistication with this strong story about a comic-book artist (Ben Affleck) who falls in love with a lesbian (Joey Lauren Adams) and actually gets his wish that she love him, too. Their relationship is attacked, however, by his business partner (Jason Lee), who pulls a very unsubtle Iago act to cast doubt over the whole affair. The film has the same sense of insiderness as "Clerks"--this time, Smith takes us within the arcane, funny world of comic-book cultism--but the themes of jealousy, deceit, and the high price of growing up enough to truly care for someone make this a very satisfying movie.

Lars and The Real Girl

To some, "Lars and the Real Girl" will play as comedy; to others, tragedy. Though Craig Gillespie (Mr. Woodcock) allows Lars Lindstrom (a mustachioed Ryan Gosling, miles away from "Half Nelson") a happy ending, the road is far from smooth. This rumpled Midwesterner couldn't be more miserable. His brother, Gus (Paul Schneider, "All the Real Girls"), and sister-in-law, Karin (Emily Mortimer, "Lovely and Amazing"), fall over themselves to cheer him up, but Lars cannot be moved; he’s been like that since childhood. Then a porn-addicted co-worker hips him to the lifelike Real Doll. The next thing everyone knows, Lars has a new girlfriend named Bianca. She's from Brazil, she's shy, and she uses a wheelchair. She's also made of silicon. (Because Lars is a devout Christian, hanky-panky is out of the question.) Since he's finally emerging from his shell, his doctor, Dagmar (Patricia Clarkson), advises Gus and Karin to play along with the "delusion." Soon the whole town, including Margo (Kelli Garner), who harbors a not-so-secret crush on her officemate, gets in on the action, forcing Lars to rejoin the human race or crawl deeper into psychosis. Written by "Six Feet Under"'s Nancy Oliver, "Lars and the Real Girl" is built around such a preposterous premise, it's hard to know whether to laugh or cry. Fortunately, the actors play it straight. Gosling does his best to make Lars sympathetic, but Schneider and Mortimer, fully convincing in their concern, are the true heart and soul of this odd little film

T-roy's Movie Club (Week 7)

This is a little known film that is fantastic and heart wrenching. If you haven't seen it, you must! Rosie Perez gives the surprise performance of the year in this one. All around great movie from script, direction and acting. Here is a little summary.

After a terrible air disaster, survivor Max Klein emerges a changed person. Unable to connect to his former life or to wife Laura, he feels godlike and invulnerable. When psychologist Bill Perlman is unable to help Max, he has Max meet another survivor, Carla Rodrigo, who is racked with grief and guilt since her baby died in the crash which she and Max survived.

T-roy's Movie Club (Week 6)

Well i posted an article a while ago that went over Tarentino's favorite films of the last twenty years. One of them was dogville. I didn't know about this one as i didn't know about quite a few of his selections but his comment about it forced me to see it. He said "Arguably the greatest script ever written." Now coming from him that is big praise. I also know that he tends to over hype stuff that he loves which we all do. So i am know i am going to over hype this but...

If you have 3 hours to watch a movie that is basically a play that is fairly boring for the first 30 to 40 minutes but at the same time becomes a masterpiece then watch dogville. I loved everything about this and i don't see any flaws in it. This is not for the average movie goer though you really have to love great writing and non commercial films. If you are used to commercial formula you won't get it here. But if you are willing to stick with it once you start it you will thank me most likely. At the same time you could hate it. LOL. But i loved it.

T-roy's Movie Club (Week 5)

Below is an excerpt from my review of Eyes Wide Shut.

Last night i watched Eyes Wide Shut for the first time. I am not sure why i didn't see it before but i am glad i finally watched it. There are a million words i could use to describe this film but i think there are two words that just about do the job.
Fucking BRILLIANT!

As some of you may or may not i know i tend to love movies that make you think and that have multiple layers to them. Well this movie has all that and more. As soon as it was over i told Irena that i didn't want to discuss it with her until tomorrow. Generally with a movie like this you really need to take a day to reflect. Well we came together after work and had an hour long discussion about it. This is after i had a 2 hour discussion about it with my friend Dan at work. It's really genius in every way. The story, the lighting, the acting, and the directing. The attention to detail is almost unreal. It's crazy to think that somewhere put that much thought into making a movie. But then again it is Stanley Kubrick and we all know he is a beast.

I really don't want to tell you to much about it because it's really best to be surprised. All i can say is that if you like deep movies and you like to think about a movie afterward then it's a must see. If you don't like those types of movies you will absolutely hate it. It's really a love or hate movie.

Ok i will tell you a little bit...

Love, anger, infidelity, sex, life, money, power, the illuminati, death, guilt, humans, marriage, loneliness, prostitution.

Ok now you know to much!!!! lol

T-roy's Movie Club (Week 4)

28 WEEKS LATER

Being a big fan of horror movies (and not liking a vast majority of them) i am always excited when i see one i actually think is really good! What makes a good horror movie to me is....

it HAS to be dark. I can't stand teenie bopper horror movies. I know what you did last summer, etc...

It has to fill me with a sense of dread or despair. Since i don't get scared by movies anymore i at least have to feel horrified by what i saw or feel doom while watching it.

And last it has to stay with me for the rest of the night. I don't want to forget about it as soon as i leave the theater.

This weeks selection is one of my favorite horror films of this decade. I have a few and this is in the top 5 since 2000. The original was a great zombie movie with a twist. Was unique in a lot of ways and i enjoyed it. But the sequel is on another level. This is what a horror movie should be like. Dark from start to finish and doesn't apologize for it. Make sure you see the original first.

T-roy's Movie Club (Week 3)

"The Fountain"

This is another one of my favorite movies. It's a must see if you like thinking movies and not just the normal hollywood mindless trash. Here is a small synopsis.

Spanning over one thousand years, and three parallel stories, The Fountain is a story of love, death, spirituality, and the fragility of our existence in this world.

Here is a trailer...

.

T-roy's Movie Club (Week 2)

My week two selection is "The Wrestler." I reviewed it when i first saw it in NYC and i am suggesting it now because well... it's awesome. It's really a fantastic film all the way around and honestly if you don't like it stop reading these movie club posts!

The wrestler is directed by Darren Aronofsky. Who also directed "Pi", "Requiem for a Dream" and one of my favorites "The Fountain" This guy is great and really knows what he is doing. Let me know what you think!

T-roy's Movie Club (Week 1)

Being as i am such a movie buff.... =) i thought it would be cool to recommend 1 movie a week to any readers of this blog. It's up to you if you watch it or not but i feel if you check out each movie you wont be sorry. you may actually dig it!

The first movie I am recommending is "Oldboy." Oldboy is a korean movie from 2003 that has shocked and surprised many across the globe. IT is subtitled and dubbed, you can choose what you prefer. This is probably in my top 5 favorites of all time. Its up there. If you like revenge films.. it doesn't get any better than this. This is the best revenge film i have ever seen.

Without telling you to much....

After being kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years, Oh Dae-Su is released, only to find that he must find his captor in 5 days.

Ok that's all i'll give you. You must watch and report!
